FALL

The Ath-Ed
Lacrosse League is offering a fall lacrosse season to players going into 6th,
7th, and 8th grades. Registration is $85 per player. It
is certainly an affordable opportunity for your child to continue their growth
in the sport and the competitive excitement of lacrosse during its off-season
(breakdown costs average about $10 a week for participation). Games are played
on Saturday afternoons at Black River Fields in Chester. The league begins on
September 17th and runs through October 22nd. Games will
begin approximately at 4pm – a complete schedule will be available on the
website by September 15th.
Ath-Ed
is operated by the Gallucci family of Mt. Olive. David Gallucci is currently
the head coach of the MOHS boys lacrosse program. Go to

largest educational opportunity for US Lacrosse member coaches, officials, and
administrators. Online registration will be available on the US Lacrosse Web

MLL EXPANDS
FOR 2006
Jake ‘Body By
Jake’ Steinfeld has always made his passions into business, first fitness and
now lacrosse. He played the game in high school and was fortunate enough to get
into Cortland State University because of it. Jake “retired” from college early
when he realized there was no such thing as professional outdoor lacrosse. He
moved to Los Angeles to pursue bodybuilding – and the rest is history. Body by
Jake was established in 1980 to develop merchandise, programming, partnerships,
and other multimedia endeavors, all promoting the benefits of healthy living –
and the motivation to get there. Jake and his Body by Jake brand name have since
become icons in the fitness industry.
Like most
lacrosse fans and players, Jake always kept his love for the game of lacrosse.
Fortunately for him and young men today who want to play lacrosse
professionally, Jake’s success has allowed him to make his dream a reality with
the creation of Major League Lacrosse (MLL). June 7, 2001, marked the successful
onset of the inaugural season of professional outdoor lacrosse and MLL is poised
for many more fruitful years as the pinnacle of the sport.
With the
explosion of popularity lacrosse has seen over the last four years, it has
allowed the MLL the opportunity to plan its first expansion of the league since
its inception. Only four years into its tenure, the league has already set its
sights on four new cities. These four cities will be added to the current
six-team league next year. Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, and Dallas will
introduce MLL teams next season.
Along with the
current teams of Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Long Island, Boston, and
Rochester, these four new cities will stretch the league all the way from the
east coast to literally across the other side of the continent.
Colorado has
seen the biggest explosion of youth and high school lacrosse over the last three
years. The new Denver team will certainly help put lacrosse on the map in the
Colorado area.
The new West
Coast Division that will be added next season was all based on MLL’s exploratory
expansion initiative, known as “Project West Coast”. Several games featuring
MLL teams were conducted on a “Wild West Tour” in 2004 and more are planned this
year to project the growth of the sport in the western states.
Other west
coast markets under future consideration for expansion are Austin, Phoenix,
Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento and Seattle.

LAST
BUT NOT LEAST
This will be the last newsletter emailed to our 2005 graduating class. The Club
wishes to thank them all for their participation over the years and wish them
well in their high school careers and beyond. We are grateful to those players
that have been with us since our inception and hope that they will continue to
bring lacrosse to the forefront in their respective towns. Feel free to surf
our website for future Club bi-monthly newsletters on our News link at
www.mojlc.org. Thank you to those
parents and players for their cooperation and support in our efforts to make
lacrosse a viable alternative to the traditional sports in our community. We
raise our sticks to you!
BOARD TO TEARS
A
special thanks to those board members who have chosen to step down this season.
Their efforts will not go unnoticed. First and foremost, thanks to Heather
Merkle for her work this year as president. Her diligent work ethic in all
facets of Club operations will certainly be missed. She will remain as
treasurer of the boys program this year, but the Club will always appreciate her
splendid representation of our Club in her tenure as president.
Original board members Chris Killian, Jack Isler, and Mike Pizzirusso have
stepped down from the board altogether this year after three continuous years of
service to the Club. All three have been with the Club since its inception and
have all made a positive impact in the growth of our organization and the
establishment of the sport in Mt. Olive.
Thanks also goes out to Chrissy Priest for her two years of service to the Club
as a trustee and representative of the girls program and to Peggy Harper for her
assistance this year as Club Secretary and two years as picnic coordinator.
All
of these members have done a wonderful job of representing lacrosse in the
township and have helped build our Club as a formidable organization. As we
progress, it is because of these fine folks and their unselfish dedication that
we continue to grow and offer a chance for you and your child to experience the
fun and excitement of lacrosse.
